Teamspeak Setup Guide.

Post by skudakoi on Sat Sep 21, 2013 8:41 pm

Goto  http://www.teamspeak.com/?page=downloads  and download the client.  if in doubt, get the top one on the list (32 bit) unless you are confident the 64 bit version will work.
Install Teamspeak and the run.
First thing to do, is to get set up, so, click on "Setings" in the tool bar, and select "Set Up Wizard".
1) Set your nickname.
2) Click the radio button to chose voice activation (mic will activate and transmit as soon as you talk/make a noise/burp/sneeze or say "fuck"), or you can chose Push To Talk (PTT).  If you select PTT, you will see there is a button just right of the PPT text, showing what button is currently set to use PTT.  If you wish to change this, left cick on it, then press whichever button you wish to use.  Ths can include a mouse button, for those with multi buttoned mouses (mice?)  This will only transmit when you press the defined button.
3) Time to tst your set up.  Press the "Begin Test" button.  Now press the button you just set for your PTT and talk (if you selected voice activation, just start talking after presing "Begin Test".  You should see the sound generated in the graphical bar near the top of the window.  If you see no sign of any sound on the volume meter bar thingy, skip down to "Oh fuck, I can't hear see my mic working!" part of the guide.
4) Should you want to, set up a button that will mute/unmute your mic.
5) Select sound pack, exactly what it says on the tin!
6) All done!  Be sure to untick thouse pesky boxes at the bottom before clicking on done.
Now the connection bit.
Click on the "Connections" tab in the top left, and select "Connect"
In the "Server Address box, enter;
london2.teamspeak.net:20660
Leave the "Server Password" blank, as for now, there is no pasword on it.
Click "Connect"
That's it, your connected!

"Oh fuck, I can't hear see my mic working!"  Section.

Okie dokey, firstly, do all the usual checks; is it plugged in, and in the right hole?  (You  would be surprised how many people get the wrong hole!)  Is the mic muted on the headset/stalk?  Check your volume control panel, and make sure your mic.  If all this draws a blank, then try running set up on your mic in your windows control panel.
To do that, click "Start", select Control Panel, and then click on Manage Audio Devices.
Click on the Recordings tab, and ensure that the mic you are using is set to default.
Once set to default, click the Configure bitton.  A new window will appear, select the second option "Set Up Microphone".  Select your microphone type, and press Next, and then Next again.  Now follow the prompt and start talking, you should see the volume bar filling and falling as you speak.  Proceed to the next page and hit Finish.
Fire Teamspeak up again, and then connect as explained above.

Hopefully, this should be now sorted.  If not, well, erm.... hm.mmm... Ahhhh, get some beer, drink till you can't see straight, and run down the street naked, shouting "I am a Water Boatman!".  This will have absolutely no effect on the workings of Teamspeak, but will bring much merriment and mirth to the rest of us!

I have G set as PTT, and when I'm on voice activation I have numpad * for mute/unmute.

BTW: If you see a guy wandering around on the TS named "Toast", well, that's me.

Got to test it yesterday with Blue and Toast. I set the push to talk to spacebar. Remember to go into game settings to change stop to fire to some other key else you will stop every time you talk.

I use the tilde key, the one below the escape, as I can actually see any other use for it. If you have a mouse with 4 or more buttons, you can program it to that.
